The Processes Defined
Embroidery
is the art form of decorating an item by sewing a design
onto it with thread. The design must be digitized first
to run on an embroidery machine.
Screen
Printing or “Silk Screening” is the process of decorating
an item by printing a design in ink, one colour at a time,
through a tight silk mesh.
The
Test
We took a high quality T-shirt and silk screened the Suzuki
logo on to it and then we took a quality polo shirt and
embroidered the Suzuki logo going down the arm. As both
processes show their appeal screen printing with its shine
and embroidery with its professional dimensional look, we
wanted to look a little deeper and test the longevity of
each process. Therefore, we washed each shirt 20 times in
a typical washer & dryer. (Results may vary depending
on the quality of the screen-printer & embroider)
The
Observation
Our observation was clear the silk screening was cracking
in multiple spots giving a very unprofessional look to the
Suzuki brand. The embroidered Suzuki logo held up well and
was in almost the identical condition as it was when first
embroidered.
